THEMES:
Spring; Conservation; gardening; plant care (in door).
THE SONG:
I have used this song with great effect during Spring and any time “New Growth” is being discussed. Generally aimed at the lower primary and pre-school child. A nice easy sing along song.
ACTIVITIES:
Science:
Grow a seed in cotton wool (wheat seeds or broad bean seeds) in jars to watch the germination, sprouting and root growth.
Make a garden plot – flowers or bulbs; better still, a vegetable patch and when ripe; harvest and have a group activity of cleaning, pealing, dicing and boiling up into a vegetable stew.
Social Studies:
Farming in the district, state, country, etc. Looking at different crops for different climates and different markets.
Look at the ‘wood chip’ industry and the local and interstate conservation issues. Re- forestation; is it happening?? Is it the answer?? Is it enough??
Drama:
Refer Play written over the page. … This involves:
Acting, actions and costumes of children’s own design.
Public speaking and performance.
Singing:
Teacher to interpret any way they wish.

Will you help me?
Will you help me to grow?
Verse 2
You can help to plant me, you water me each day.
You can put me in the sun shine,
I will grow while you play.

Bridge
I am growing, I am growing, I’m reaching for the sky I
I am sprouting, I am sprouting Can you see my leaves shine.
