Rain

THEMES

Seasons; Water, winter

THE SONG:

This song was written for a “winter’s Night” at the Castlemaine Kindergarten in 1988. Its simplicity makes it suitable for a young audience of pre-school and junior primary children.

ACTIVITIES:

Science: Water Cycle and water catchment areas, water conservation and need of water for growth {ie. irrigation to crops and watering the garden). Hydro electric power could also be looked at.

Social Studies: Uses of water in our lives – drinking, washing, cleaning, cooking, growing plants and flushing toilets. List these things to encourage an appreciation of many daily applications for water, and of its high importance in our life. {Many activities in the MMBW Manual for Primary Schools – “Water Conservation Activity Manual”)

Maths: Rainfall – collection of data – measuring from a rain gauge and associated barometer readings.

Games: Any indoor games to be used for a wet afternoon.

Language:

  • List all words describing the sound of water, drip, gurgle, babbling, splashing, cascading, etc.
  • List all names of precipitation, rain, snow, hail, sleet, shower, downpour, etc.
  • Put these together with names of water courses, creek, river, tributary, dam, reservoir, etc

Song Lyrics:

Rain

Verse 1

Rain falls from the sky above me,

I feel it splatter on my rain coat,

Pitter, Patter, Spitter, Spatter.

It dribbles down my chin, It wipes away my grin,

It’s so wet, I can’t go out to play.

Pitter, Patter, Spitter, Spat ter.

It’s so wet, I can’t go out to play.

Verse 2

The clouds, they cover the sky’s blueness.

Everything’s so dark and dreary

Pitter, Patter, Spitter, Spat ter.

It drips off my nose, It soaks all my toes,

It’s so wet, I’m stuck inside today.

Pitter, Patter, Spitter, Spat ter,

It’s so wet, I’m stuck inside today.

Verse 3

My Mummy and Daddy tuck me into bed.

They tell me a story and hug me.

Pitter, Patter, Spitter, Spat ter,

The rain, it falls outside I snuggle up and hide

Underneath the blankets I’m dry and warm,

Pitter, Patter, Spitter, Spatter.

Underneath the blankets I’m dry and warm
